When enrolled as a student at Oakland Karate & Kickboxing, you have the opportunity to train in all of our Martial Arts Programs: Shaolin Kempo Karate, Muay Thai Kickboxing, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and our fitness classes.
Muay Thai is the national martial art and self-defense style of Thailand. Famous for its eight devastating striking points – kicks, elbows, knees and punches – Muay Thai has proven to be one of the most effective striking systems in the world.
At Oakland Karate & Kickboxing, our students embrace the training solely for its physical intensity and other students test their abilities in the ring. We are aware that not everyone wants to fight, so we teach control and respect. All of our programs are beginner friendly, so don't worry if you have no prior experience.
The art of Shaolin Kempo is derived from three styles of martial arts: Shaolin Kung Fu, Okinowin Karate, and Jiu Jitsu as guides in the forming of an integrated style. This creates the perfect formula for developing a superior martial artist. The system is a combination of multiple strikes, breaking blocks, the ground skills of Jiu Jitsu combined with the flow of Kung Fu and the power of Karate.
The primary focus of Shaolin Kempo is self-defense with an emphasis on speed, power & accuracy. Students begin by learning basic Shaolin Kempo techniques & continue to practice skills with Instructors & other students through self-defense drills & sparring. You will learn to become equally proficient at using your hands and feet to defend yourself. You will learn to defend yourself in a wide variety of street type situations (chokes, grabs, stabs, clubs, punches, kicks, multiple attackers, etc.).
Practicing Shaolin Kempo helps to improve physical fitness, increase self-confidence & personal safety skills, increase mental focus, & assist in stress management. Prospective students are encouraged to observe our adult class to gain a better understanding of our system and teaching style.
This form of self-defense encompasses a method of training that promotes all around fitness, including strength, flexibility and stress.
An art of weaponless self-defense, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu aka BJJ relies on principles of physics and knowledge of human anatomy to overcome an attacker with little effort. Practioner's use leverage and balance to achieve maximum effect with minimum effort. Techniques include joint locks, throws, submission holds, chokes and take-downs.
This class is open to students ages 14+. Beginners are always welcome and you'll find a supportive group of practitioners!
